Ben St Lawrence on Running
Article by Ben St Lawrence

NBR: What’s important in helping you keep your running/training enjoyable?
BSL: Plan regular races and events to work towards and variation in training locations and sessions- especially finding scenic trails to do a long run on. I usually combine this with finding a great cafe at which I reward myself with a post-run breakfast! I love running on my own a few times each week, but also find that arranging training buddies helps to keep things interesting. Also when I was working full-time, I would run to and from work while listening to podcasts – thus combining my commute, training and entertainment while also freeing up extra time in the evenings.
NBR: What tip would you give beginner runners who are about to embark on their first race?
BSL: Enjoy it, most of the hard work has been done in training. Also, make sure to run at a conservative pace to begin with, then work your way into it and race people around you to the finish. You could absolutely ruin your first ever race by going out too hard and ‘blowing up’ – save this for your next one.
